The 28th Tokyo International Film Festival, held from October 22nd through the 31st and centered around Roppongi Hills, will present a special Mobile Suit Gundam screening series.。
Following the success of last year’s The World of Hideaki Anno screenings, this return to the world of animation will focus on Mobile Suit Gundam, which has had a massive impact on the world of film and beyond. Creators who have praised the influence of Gundam on their own works include Guillermo Del Toro, director of Pacific Rim.
Along with the legendary first Mobile Suit Gundam film, directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the series of several dozen screenings will include everything from TV and theatrical releases to rare shorts. This unique event is both the first major Gundam screening series and TIFF’s first series centered on a single animation series, and will feature an unrivalled slate of creator appearances from across Gundam’s history, as well as other events.

This year’s TIFF brings a celebration of film culture to Tokyo with an expanded 10-day schedule, added venues, and more events than ever.
