Yoshiyuki Tomino, father of
Mobile Suit Gundam and a maestro of Japanese animation. As he prepares a new work, his boyhood dreams of travel to space lead him to focus on a 'space elevator'. The space elevator, said to have the potential to be as crucial to human advancement as the Wright brothers' flight or the Apollo landings, is currently being researched from several perspectives. Tomino, seeking to make space as central a concept to his new work as it was to Gundam, has consulted with professors and students, participated in the Japan Space Elevator Game and Third Space Elevator Conference, and continues to probe the potentials and dreams, difficulties and problems, posed by the space elevator. Tomino was not always a proponent of a space elevator. This program covers him as he plans his new work. What caused his change in opinion about the space elevator? And what story will he tell? This must-see program delves into his dreams and fervent wishes 'for humanity to survive another 100,000 years.'
