▲ MS-06R-1A Zaku II High Mobility Type(Above: Gaia / Left: Ortega / Right: Mash)
The MS-06 Zaku II, a suit that actively participates as the main force of the Principality of Zeon Forces, underwent development into a suit that would have utilizable versatility in accordance to various military situations starting with the Early Production Type C-Type, then the F-Type. Once the Principality of Zeon began preparing the mass production system of the highly versatile C-Type for the outbreak of the War of Independence, they then begin development on the MS-06 Zaku II and specialized the model to specifically deal with local restrictive battles. During that time, the model that was completed in the quickest period was the MS-06R-1A Zaku II High Mobility Type. The suit’s versatility was removed and improvements were made for a higher mobility to specialize the suit for combat in space. A propellant tank that could store much more propellant to consume at a larger capacity was added as a large-sized randoseru backpack. Three large-sized thrusters for acceleration were installed into each leg for a total of six thrusters to work towards an increase in mobility. This suit was used by the Black Tri-Stars – Gaia, Ortega, and Mash who once took part as test pilots during the mobile suit’s development – in a large-scale fleet battle in the early days of the War of Independence called the Battle of Loum. The three-in-one tactical maneuver, a formation made for anti-ship battles, is the trio’s specialty and is characterized by the trio’s varying armaments depending on their roles in battle. Gaia’s suit, which leads the team, is equipped with a shield on both shoulders and the number of rounds its bazooka carries has been increased. Mash’s suit has excellent firing ability and is equipped with the anti-ship MS rifle ASR-78 and is able to shoot middle and long-range distances. Lastly, Ortega’s suit specializes in close quarters combat and coordinates with the attacks of Gaia and Mash to deal the finishing blow in a direct attack with its Giant Heat Hawk. As a result, they will achieve remarkable results from the Battle of Loum.
▲ MS-04 BUGU
MS-04 BUGU is a prototype suit that was created in disregards to productivity and maintainability, and instead takes actual combat elements into account. It is developed from the YMS-03 WAFF, a suit that is a founder-like existence in mobile suit development. Though the suit is said to be completed as a version of a mobile suit, afterwards, MS-05 Zaku I was developed from MS-04 BUGU’s data and had more balance in practicality and productivity. Only a small quantity of MS-04 BUGU was manufactured before the outbreak of the War of Independence due to the mass production of MS05 Zaku I, erasing the suit from the frontlines. However, MS-04 BUGU’s performance surpassed that of MS-05 Zaku I’s and the number of mobile suits manufactured were still few, so some pilots continued to use MS-04 BUGU. Ramba Ral, a test pilot during the time of the mobile suit’s development, was also one of those pilots. Ramba piloted his MS-04 BUGU, equipped with an A2-sized MS Bazooka and Heat Hawk Shield, and participated in the attack against the Side 2 Hatte Defense Unit during the outbreak of the War of Independence as the commander of the Mobile Suit Forces.
▲ GG Gas Instillation Boat
The first large-scale operation in the War of Independence waged by the Principality of Zeon Forces was Operation British; the operation would bring about the end of a space colony to target Jaburo where the Earth Federation Forces Headquarters were located. To execute this operation, Zeon needed to acquire a space colony that was in nearly undamaged condition. The Principality of Zeon Forces decide to target Island Iffish, the capital bunch of Side 2 Hatte and pro-Earth Federation, and utilize GG Gas, a lethal chemical weapon, to cause the death of all its inhabitants. What had been used then was a special space boat that would be able to transport and instill the GG Gas into the colony. This space boat is configured with a top unit that controls the steering and gas instilling operation and a bottom tank unit. This space boat was originally not developed for the specific use of instilling the GG Gas, but for the transportation of gases, such as oxygen, and liquids that are used in the construction of colonies and for instilling the matter onsite. It was then put to a different use by the military. Due to that reason, the crew wore a special normal suit that would prevent them from suffering even from the unforeseen GG Gas leakage.
▲ Island Iffish
Side 2 is a group of space colonies located in the Lagrangian Point 4 (L4) and is located near the Moon. Hatte is the name of Side 2 and Island Iffish is its capital bunch. The colony is shaped by three externally placed mirror panels and uses an “open-type” formation that alternated between light panels called “rivers” and land. Side 2 Hatte expressed its political affiliation with the Earth Federation despite being composed of Spacenoid citizens. A Hatte Defense Unit, equipped with armaments that were provided by the Earth Federation Forces or hurriedly constructed in the colony, worked to guard and maintain public order of the colony. Following the Principality of Zeon Forces’ declaration of war during the outbreak of the War of Independence, Zeon immediately begins attacking Side 2 due to the colony’s political opposition. Island Iffish then became the target of Operation British as plotted by the Principality of Zeon Forces and all citizens that resided in the Side lose their lives to the lethal GG Gas. The nearly undamaged colony, now fallen into the hands of the Principality of Zeon, is then used in a colony drop to destroy Jaburo where the Earth Federation Forces Headquarters are located. A heat-resistant coating was applied to its outer walls and boosters, installed into Island Iffish, separated the colony from its Lagrangian Point. The colony then began free falling towards Earth and was brought to a low Earth orbit. Island Iffish, divided into three parts as it reentered the atmosphere, fell incessantly to various places on Earth, and brought about humanity’s greatest tragedy in history.
