Stunningly Impressive Transformation & Lighting! “Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue” Display Finally Opens Sept. 24th!

The “Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue,” which stands in DiverCity Tokyo Plaza’s Festival Plaza in Odaiba, Tokyo, will finally be open for display on September 24^th (Sun).
A special ceremony performed by wonderful guests took place on September 23^rd (Sat, public holiday), the night before opening day, and the full particulars that many are curious about were revealed.

It had been decided that the “Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue” would be newly built to take the place of the “Life-Sized Gundam Statue” which had been closed and taken down earlier this year in March. A special ceremony that commemorated the statue’s grand opening featured TOKYO Gundam Project 2017 Executive Committee Chairman and Tokyo Port Terminal Corporation Managing Director Mr. Toshinobu Maeda, BANDAI Co., Ltd Managing Director Representative Mr. Yoshitaka Tao, Sotsu Co., Ltd President Mr. Takashi Izuhara, and Sunrise Inc. President Mr. Yasuo Miyakawa as guests. Their happiness in safely completing the statue due to being supported by the passionate support and expectations of many fans and the charms of the Gundam series were shared and commented on from Odaiba alongside GUNDAM BASE TOKYO, the world’s largest Gunpla shop, and GUNDAM CAFÉ where the world of Gundam can be enjoyed.
President Miyakawa revealed thatMobile Suit Gundam Unicorn would not only have this statue, but will also have a new project scheduled to be announced next spring.

Furthermore, Mr. Koki Uchiyama, voice of the protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Banagher Links, Mr. Hiroyuki Sawano and Ms. Tielle, who were responsible for the music, and Mr. SUGIZO appeared as special guests. A new song “Cage,” written to be the theme song for the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue, was performed as the statue transformed from Unicorn Mode to Destroy Mode while its entire body was lit up. A solo of “Beginning” by Mr. SUGIZO and a live performance of a special medley by all the guests also took place, making it a magnificent ceremony.

The Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue will have productions every day that have recreated, as accurately as possible, its transformation from Unicorn Mode to Destroy Mode with gimmicks such as the opening and closing of its horn, changing head modes, and the expansion of its shoulder, waist, and knee parts. A collaboration video that will be projected on the statue and wall at night will also be conducted by popular production company WALL-G.

To match the composition of the Mobile Suit Gundam opening, previous broadcasted in 1979, the video was reconstructed with the Gundam portions newly created in 3DCG while keeping the atmosphere of the original video the same.
Unicorn Gundam is set in the same Universal Century as the first Gundam and is a series that is conscious of its connection to that world. It is a story flow that will have the new generation interested while having old Gundam fans feel nostalgic.

A new song by SawanoHiroyuki [nZk], a project by Mr. Hiroyuki Sawano who was responsible for the compositions of the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn anime. Vocals are sung by Tielle.
It is a song with a straightforward image such as the sharing power and beginnings that the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam holds while placing importance in the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn universe.

Ahead of the opening of the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue, a photo deck is currently installed in front of the statue in Symbol Promenade Park as part of the “TOKYO Gundam Project 2017” from August 26^th (Sat) to November 26^th (Sun).
In addition to being able to freely take a photo of the Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue, an original sheet printed with your photo taken by a photographer is also being sold.
